FREEDIVING

Explore your limits, try Free Diving!

See what your body and mind are capable of!

If you have ever dreamed of passively exploring the underwater world free from equipment, you’ll love freediving!
It is the most natural and serene way to explore the depths of the seas with minimal impact. It is also the ultimate way to free yourself and spend more time enjoying the beauty and silence of the sea.

Anyone who has held their breath underwater has freedived. However, freediving is not simply about seeing how long you can hold your breath or how deep you can go on a single breath. You have to create the right attitude and pay attention to the limits of your body and mind. The true appeal of freediving is in the silence and calm it brings to people’s hectic lives.

We offer AIDA certification courses (upon completion of the course requisites) as well as Discover course. AIDA is the largest and most established organization for the development of freediving. We also offer individual training sessions and fun dives in Amorgos and a unique combination of Freediving and Mental Training sessions.

During the courses you will learn to freedive in a safe, professional and enjoyable way. We will introduce you the most common disciplines of freediving: Static, Dynamic, Constant Weight and Free Immersion.

Manina 3 – We love you!

Manina 3 – We love you!

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluslinkedinmail

Saturday 15 August 2015

We returned to our beloved wreck Manina 3.
For our Dive masters in training as well as for our lovely customers it was an experience they will never forget.
Yesterday was very special as Amorgos Diving Center took for the first time freedivers and the spot.
Absolutely amazing!

Indeed from this year, our center also proposes Freediving courses with AIDA instructor.
We hope for this summer that the Meltemi will be kind to us and we get to hang out with Manina 3 more often.
For now enjoy the pictures from yesterday.

Love and bubbles from the Amorgos Diving Center crew.

Limenaraki

Limenaraki

A HIDDEN BAY only 5 minutes from the port of Aegiali. The site is a beautiful natural harbour. This wall dive is special for its abundant fish life, specially the beautiful Damsel fish, which you usually see in larger schools.

As you walk in from the shore, which quite quickly drops down, the small animal life begins: spiral worms, damsel fish and sea bream are all around you. As you venture deeper the wall is very impressive filled with holes and small caverns covered in sponges (especially the black sponges) and corals.
The pockets of the wall are hiding places for different micro marine life such as our favorite nudibranch Spotted Doris and spiral worms. The wall has a stunning arched swim-through at around 10m which feeds the day light down to you as you pass below.

Expect this to be, as we call it, a very “meditative” dive. The greatness and blueness embracing you through out the dive, will give you a very relaxing and soothing feeling.

Old Bauxite Mines

Old Bauxite Mines

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluslinkedinmail

UNDER THE OLD BAUXITE MINES of Amorgos on the east side of the island, you will find a unique dive site that bears witness to the once bustling mines.

After a steep drop off there is a plateau at 18 metres where you can see parts of the equipment used to load the mined bauxite to different cargo ships. Parts of old steel wagons with their wheels still attached and pieces of the tracks on which they were pushed can be found on several points along this dive site.

Continuing to the north by keeping the reef on the left side, you will see several rock formations creating gentle slopes interspersed with dramatic walls.

Small Sparti Caves

Small Sparti Caves

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluslinkedinmail

A PERFECT PLACE for those who love the blue. Located on the east side of the island, this dive site offers the opportunity to swim through a relatively narrow passage created by fallen rocks and with the entrance at around 18m.

The colors of the various soft corals on the walls and the ceiling in combination with the rays of sunlight that reach the cavern will definitely impress even the most demanding diver. Exiting the cavern you will find on both sides a breathtaking wall with a small ledge at around 35m before another drop, this time to the infinite blue. On the face of the wall there are many overhangs and little holes to explore at various depths.

The general morphology of the area is ideal for a relaxing, slow dive in an effort to discover the little occupants hiding on the wall.

Nikouria’s Cavern

Nikouria’s Cavern

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluslinkedinmail

OUR OWN LITTLE PEARL amongst our dive sites, Nikouria’s Cavern is probably the most popular one if you ask our customers!

The location is an open cavern which gives the possibility for divers of all levels to enjoy the beauty of it. When inside you will experience a true color explosion. The walls are completely covered with bright purple, red and yellow sponges, diverse corals, micro marine life and large spiral worms. On the bottom you will find a swim through, here we usually spot lobsters hiding in the wall and bigger scorpion fish.

The cavern’s shape creates a spectacular landscape towards the blueness of the open sea. On the way back, we also explore the pockets of the wall where a huge meadow of Neptune grass (indicating how clean our waters are) is home to fan mussels, nudibranchs, pipe fish and much more.
