Gain experience while lending a helping hand
The Assistant Instructor qualification is the next step after becoming a Divemaster. Working closely with an Instructor, you’ll fine-tune your dive skills, refine your rescue skills so you can anticipate and easily solve common problems as well as get an introduction into teaching scuba diving, and gain professional experiences so you can become a role model to divers everywhere. Working as an assistant instructor allows you to collect valuable teaching experience, practice briefings, teach academics, and conduct limited in-water training.Â
Do you love scuba diving and want to share your passion for diving with the rest of the world by turning your hobby into your career, but want to take it step by step? Then join us for the assistant instructor training to start on your instructor career path. Our center is perfect for starting your career as we have the perfect training conditions with a calm and shallow bay with amazing visibility and easy access to open water sites. Combined with a relaxed island life and many, many years of scuba experience we create a fun environment to develop your career.Â
To begin the program you need to:Â
If you are missing some of the above, do not hesitate to get in contact and we can help you obtain the missing ones and prepare you to start the assistant instructor training! And if after finishing the training you wish to continue, you can continue to finish the remainder of the instructor training and pass the Instructor Evaluation to become an Open Water Diving Instructor.Â
The assistant instructor course takes 5 days and is the first introduction into training new divers, the professional instructor lifestyle and sharing your passions! Through the course you learn how to assist a scuba instructor in courses, how to demonstrate skills under the supervision of an instructor (but not conduct open water and higher courses yourself.) You do learn to independently conduct Try Scuba experiences, the Scuba Skills Update course and the Perfect Buoyancy specialty and guiding.Â
Some of the other topics covered include:Â
As a dive professional, you’ll want to have all your basic scuba equipment for your own comfort and safety, but for training purposes you will be able to use the dive center’s equipment. During practical skills exercises, like underwater mapping and search and recovery, you’ll use a compass, floats, marker buoys, lift bags and slates.
We recommend having your own dive computer, mask & snorkel, fins and an SMB. If needed we are happy to advise you on the equipment to best fit your goals and needs and help you with purchasing through our high-quality partners such as Cressi, Aqualung and Mares.Â
When you sign up to the program you will receive access to the SSI online learning materials which can be used through the SSI Website/App. These consist of text and video material as well as knowledge reviews and can be downloaded for offline use. Before starting your in-person sessions, you should work through and complete the eLearning at your own pace.
During the in-person parts of your training you will receive a variety of academic and practical sessions both on land and in the water to prepare you as best as we can.
The Assistant Instructor course takes a minimum of 5 days but can be adapted to your current qualifications and future goals.
When you sign up for the course we can also help you with finding convenient accommodation on the island that fits your budget.Â
Come, become a scuba professional, make friends for life and enjoy the laid back vibe of our Greek paradise island!

Fantastic experience taking the “Try Freediving” course with Giannis. Instruction was clear, professional, well organized and fun! The shop has a great vibe, so I’m sure you will have a great experience at Amorgos Diving Center no matter what activity you select. Obviously very well-run.
Great diving Center! The team were kind, organised and they knew what they were doing! I did one dive and the experience was fantastic! The equipment is excellent and I would definitely recommend them!
Excellent diving center with a great team and also important: high quality gear! 🙂
Excellent diving center : serious, modern equipment, very nice team and thorough knowledge of Amorgos best diving spot. Giannis K and Dimitris, my freediving instructors were excellent teachers. Thanks a lot!
Amazing people, excellent staff, friendly & generally awesome! Made our experience (me wife & 9yo) on Amorgos so exciting & fun. Thanks to all the instructors & staff we had during our time – they made us all feel so welcome & cared for. Thank you, from Simon, Maddie, Libby & Teddy!
Absolutely professional diving center with multilingual crew and dive masters. Offer Freediving and Scuba. Great spots with – for Greece – a good amount of interesting fish, caves and ancient stuff like marble blocks and amphoras left over from a sunken ship.
Highly recommendable address and a must if you think about diving somewhere around Amorgos!

For Freediving, you can receive your Basic Freedive Instructor qualification in 3 days, while a full Level 1 Instructor training takes 10 days
Completing your professional training is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding experience! 🙂
You learn a lot about both, diving as a professional and yourself through the process.
Yes, absolutely! Earning an income is the main perk of turning your hobby into a career! The pay levels differ between the professional levels as well as between areas of the world.Â
