Who should take this program?

Are you already a certified freediver (Level 1 and higher) and are looking to learn a new skill to improve your freediving while getting to have fun and experiencing new sensations? Then the Monofin course is right for you! This programme introduces you to new equipment and techniques to improve your skills and comfort. 

What will you learn?

Through the 2 days of training, you will receive in-person academic learning sessions, stretching sessions and in water training both in confined and open water environments. You will learn about the monofin, how it is built and how it improves your diving, and offers a completely new experience. You will learn the efficient monofin technique for better performance, through guidance on both body positioning and movement.You will also learn about using a monofin in open water environments and how to adapt using the buddy system. Part of the course is also understanding the importance and the best possibilities for both dry-land and in-water strength and stamina training in order to enjoy the most out of your dives and improve your streamlining and flexibility.

What gear will you use?

While not as much as scuba diving, freediving still involves the use of some gear. You will use and be provided with a freediving mask, snorkel and a monofin, as well as a weather appropriate freediving wetsuit. Depending on your starting level you might use other extra accessories for helping perfect your technique. You will also use a freediving safety buoy and lines. 

If you have any of your own gear you are welcome to use it or if you are wanting to invest in personal gear, our instructors would be delighted to advise you on the gear most fit for your goals, and our in-house shop also has a selection of freediving gear available for purchase. 

What learning materials will you need?

When you sign up to the course you gain access to SSI Monofin online learning materials which are best completed before starting your in-person lessons, including the online exam.The materials can be accessed through SSI Website/App and be downloaded for offline use. You will also receive in-person academic learning sessions, stretching sessions and in water training both in confined and open water environments.
