Pool Freediving

Do it step by step

single title divider

The Fun Part

Freediving is the purest form of diving and gives you an incomparable feeling of oneness with the ocean! It allows you to be a silent observer of the underwater world. Come and discover your breath-holding potential and find out why freedivers truly love their sport. After attending this course you will be able to hold your breath in a safe way and see how many “pools” you can count.

Who should take this program?

Do you enjoy snorkeling, but want to learn what it takes to be able to discover more of the underwater world of this planet without having to carry around lots of equipment, then come take this 2 day course to learn to freedive in a pool/confined water environment! This programme is open to everyone (over 12 years old), whether you already have some experience or whether you have never broken below the surface. Essentially it is the SSI Freediver course without the Open water sessions, therefore it’s perfect if you want to learn how to freedive, but don’t yet feel ready to concur the depths.  Through this course you will learn new things about both your mind and your body and gain a strong admiration for the sport and the underwater world.

What will you learn?

Through the 1 day course you will have academic sessions to gain knowledge of breath hold diving physiology, special breathing techniques and in-water safety. You will also receive in-water training in a pool and confined water to practice static breatholds on the surface, as well as dynamic breath holds (swimming the pool lengths underwater in a single breath).

What gear will you use?

While not as much as scuba diving, freediving still involves the use of some gear. You will use and be provided with a freediving mask, snorkel and freediving fins, as well as a weather appropriate freediving wetsuit.

If you have any of your own gear you are welcome to use it or if you are wanting to invest in personal gear, our instructors would be delighted to advise you on the gear most fit for your goals, and our in-house shop also has a selection of freediving gear available for purchase.

What learning materials will you need?

When you sign up to the course you gain access to SSI Freediver materials (as pool freediver certification is just a subset of the whole course) which are best completed before starting your in-person lessons, including the online exam. The materials can be accessed through SSI Website/App and be downloaded for offline use. You will also receive in-person academic learning sessions, and in-water training in a pool and confined water environment.

  • GREAT FUNHave your own superpower! By attending the pool Freediving Course you will gain a feel for freediving and how peaceful it can be to discover the marine world a single breath at a time. You will make true discoveries about yourself and your capabilities and get to enjoy learning to glide through the waters.
  • GET CERTIFIEDWhen you finish all the academic and confined water sessions, and pass the Final Exams of the SSI Freediver course then you are ready to get certified as a Pool Freediver and will be qualified to freedive with a buddy certified at the same or higher level in a pool/confined water environment up to your training depth limits. After completion you can upgrade to a Freediver, by simply completing 2 open water sessions as outlined in the training manual
  • PREREQUISITESTo enroll in the Pool Freediving course you don’t need any previous knowledge about Freediving. You need to be at least 12 years old and pass a medical statement (or get doctors approval) and be able to swim a distance of 100 meters without any swim and buoyancy aids.
  • YOUR NEXT ADVENTUREBy completing the course you will realize the magic world of Freediving and we are sure you will want to take the step towards becoming a SSI Freediver. Remember the sessions you have already completed, credit towards the Freediver certification.

Absolutely professional diving center with multilingual crew and dive masters. Offer Freediving and Scuba. Great spots with – for Greece – a good amount of interesting fish, caves and ancient stuff like marble blocks and amphoras left over from a sunken ship.

Highly recommendable address and a must if you think about diving somewhere around Amorgos!
