Many freedivers share a passion for deeper freediving. The SSI Advanced Freediver program will teach you everything you need to know to increase your average breath-hold time by advancing your breath-holding techniques. What will you learn?

Over the 4 days of the course we will learn how to get comfortable with being uncomfortable and will focus on the adaptation of your body to the breath-holding effects. 

The key point of this course is to teach you the concept of efficiency when freediving, making your body stronger and more effective in the water. The in-water sessions (at least 2 pool/confined water and 4 open water sessions) will include refining your buddy system skills, discovering the magical feeling of “freefalling” and learning how to use the changing of your buoyancy during the dive to be more efficient on deeper dives. 

You will also gain further knowledge of the mammalian dive reflex and of how humans “activate” these reflexes in order to freedive deeper and longer. We will conduct stretching and relaxation sessions, work on longer breath-hold, teach you advanced equalization techniques and also improve your freediving planning and rescue techniques. 

After completing the SSI Advanced Freediver course you will have the experience and skills to confidently freedive with your buddy beyond 20 meters to depths of up to 30 meters.

What gear will you use?

While not as much as scuba diving, freediving still involves the use of some gear. You will use and be provided with a freediving mask, snorkel and fins, as well as a weather appropriate freediving wetsuit. You will also use a freediving safety buoy and lines. 

If you are wanting to invest in personal gear, our instructors would be delighted to advise you on the gear most fit for your goals, and our in-house shop also has a selection of freediving gear available for purchase.

What learning materials will you need?

When you sign up to the course you gain access to SSI Advanced Freediver online learning materials which are best completed before starting your in-person lessons.The materials can be accessed through SSI Website/App and be downloaded for offline use. You will also receive in-person academic learning sessions prior to the in-water training.
