Try Scuba Diving

2,5h of great fun, your first underwater breaths and the marine life of Amorgos

single title divider

The Fun Part

There is nothing quite like breathing underwater for the very first time. It takes a little getting used to but since you will be in confined water and well looked after by your instructor, after a few seconds you will enjoy those first unforgettable breaths underwater and experience the magic of scuba diving. The biggest challenge instructors have with the Try Scuba Diving program is not coaxing participants into the water, but getting them out when the program is over. The fun part? It’s all fun!

Who should take this program?

If you have always wondered what it would be like to observe marine life face to face and not only from the surface, then Try Scuba Diving is perfect for you. We offer this program either in a pool or off a beach (max depth 5m). While not a scuba certification course, Try Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.

What will you learn?

You will learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of a SSI Professional. If you make an open water dive (in the sea), you’ll practice a few more skills in shallow water to prepare for your adventure. Get ready to:

  • Learn what wearing scuba equipment feels like and how it can make you feel like flying weightlessly through the water
  • Find out what it feels like to breathe underwater.
  • Learn some basic skills and safety rules that will carry over to your full scuba certification course when you decide to take the next step.

What scuba gear will you use?

The experience includes the use of all the basic scuba gear including a mask, snorkel and fins, a buoyancy compensating jacket that also carries your scuba tank, a weight system, a scuba regulator to breathe from and instrumentation to monitor depth and air supply. You will also use a scuba wetsuit appropriate to the current temperatures.

What learning materials will you need?

  • Optional online learning materials, quick read to familiarise yourself with the program and what to expect.
  • Before getting in the water, you will also have 1 short (30min) academic session to introduce you to the gear and safety rules so that you will be ready and comfortable in the water.
  • GREAT FUNThere is nothing like the feeling of breathing underwater for the very first time! Try Scuba Diving is full of awestruck wonder and great fun for kids (8y and older) and adults alike! Come, give it a try, and possibly discover your new favourite hobby or career path!
  • GET CERTIFIEDYou can get credit! The Try Scuba program itself does not result in a certification, but if your Try Scuba Diving program includes an actual scuba dive in open water, your experience may count toward SSI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver certification, putting you a step ahead of the game when you decide to go for it.
  • PREREQUISITESTo take a Try Scuba Diving course you must be at least 8 years old.
  • YOUR NEXT ADVENTUREIf you feel like an underwater superhero while completing the Try Scuba Diving program, you may want to check out: SSI Scuba Diver or/and Open Water Diver certification courses.

Absolutely professional diving center with multilingual crew and dive masters. Offer Freediving and Scuba. Great spots with – for Greece – a good amount of interesting fish, caves and ancient stuff like marble blocks and amphoras left over from a sunken ship.

Highly recommendable address and a must if you think about diving somewhere around Amorgos!

How do I learn to scuba dive?

To learn how to scuba dive you need to register for a beginner course, do some at home academic learning using comprehensive SSI online learning materials. This will be complemented by in person academic and pool sessions to teach you all about the scuba equipment use, safety rules and information and any above and underwater skills needed to become a comfortable diver.

How long does it take to get certified?

The SSI Open Water Diver course generally takes 3-4 days but it is flexible and performance based, which means the schedule of your course can be organized to best fit your schedule and progress through the course.

If you don’t have the time, SSI Scuba Diver is a limited certification that only takes 2 days!

How much do scuba lessons cost?

The full SSI Open Water Diver course with us costs 410€ and includes the use of all academic materials and scuba equipment needed.

Prices differ depending on the program, for specific interest look at the relevant section of the website or contact us directly.

What gear will I need to scuba dive?

All the scuba gear needed for the course will be provided for you. This includes a mask, snorkel, fins, a buoyancy compensating jacket, a scuba tank, regulator set for breathing, instrumentation for knowing your depth and air levels, a weight system as well as any weather appropriate thermal protection.

You just need to bring your swimsuit to wear under the wetsuit and a towel for later.

Do I have to be a good swimmer to scuba dive?

Some swimming ability is required. You need to have basic swimming skills to be able to swim a couple hundred meters and be able to comfortably maintain yourself in the water by floating/treading water for 10 minutes.

Where can I scuba dive?

Once you have completed the SSI Open Water Diver course you will be certified to dive worldwide. We recommend using the SSI website/App to find the dive shops and centers most fit to your needs.

Completing the Advanced Adventurer program or any full SSI speciality course can extend the range of diving conditions and limits you can dive in.
